Educational Resources

Education and training is a vital component and mainstay for our staff, health professionals, and the community. In an
effort to help improve life every day, FBS reaches out to the community through public speaking, tours, and continuing education.
Through our community connections, we are training new generations of volunteer blood donors every year. Some of the highlights from
this last year include:

August 2005 saw the start of a new seven-month curriculum – Blood Bank Technology Program (BBT) – which offers eligible college
graduates a means to become licensed as Medical Technologists in the areas of Blood Banking and Immuohematology.

Phlebotomy Schools in our communities send their students to FBS to complete their clinical externships. Our ASCP Certified
Phlobotomists serve as trainiers to prepare new phlebotomists to interact and draw blood from volunteer community blood donors.

FBS offers a one-year, on-line Distance Learning Program for Specialist in Blood Banking certification through the collaboration
with the University of Texas Medical Branch and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
We want everyone to know as much as possible about the miracles that blood donations work. We provide a variety of
educational resources, including programs in bay area schools and links to current literature.
