FBS Blood Bank Technology Program was established in 2005 and is licensed by the Florida Department of Health.
Upon successful completion of the program, the student applies to the American Association of Bioanalysts
(AAB) to sit for the national examination to be certified as a medical technologist in the discipline of
immunohematology. The student will apply to the Florida Department of Health to obtain a medical technology
license in the areas of Immunohematology/Blood Banking. This will allow a graduate to work in a blood
center or hospital compatibility laboratory. Students will receive a $1,000 monthly stipend during the program
in exchange for a two year commitment with FBS as a medical technologist (dependent on available positions and supervisor approval).
Entrance Requirements
Candidates for admission must have:

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited university or college with a chemical, biological or physical
science degree. Students who will receive their degrees in August are acceptable. An official transcript or
copy from each university/college attended must be submitted. Foreign
education credentials need to be evaluated prior to acceptance in the program. Transcripts may be submitted

Curriculum - Lectures (108 hours)
Class lectures and student lab rotation take place August - mid-October from 8:00 - 12:00 Monday - Friday.

Lectures are presented by the FBS Chief Medical Officer, Senior Consultant MD for FBS, Training Coordinator,
Vice Presidents, Department Directors and Managers, and guest lecturers. Students may also attend technical
meetings, seminars, audio conferences and workshops outside the Blood Bank.
Curriculum - Laboratory Rotations at FBS (394 hours)
Department rotations occur October - February. These hours are flexible. The student will confer with the varying
departments to find a time they can offer training.
