What’s In Blood?
What's In Blood? Rust!
The same thing that causes a car to rust makes your blood red. Your red blood cells have iron in them. When they pick up a load of oxygen in your lungs, it causes the iron to rust, or "oxidize". This turns your blood red.

Did You Know...
That insect blood is green? The same thing that makes your blood red, makes insect blood green.

Instead of iron in their blood like you, insects have copper in their blood. When oxygen mixes with copper, it turns it green. Just like a copper pipe!
