For all the wonders of modern science, no one has ever found a substitute for blood. So we take our responsibility
seriously at Florida Blood Services.
In the Tampa Bay area, 38 hospitals and 80 ambulatory care centers count on us for whole blood, blood products and
services, and we must collect more than 750 pints of this gift of life every day, just to meet the needs of our
neighbors in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco and Manatee Counties.
But collecting blood is only part of our job. FBS is also a vital testing resource for 30 East Coast blood centers
and medical facilities from Maine to Puerto Rico. We subject every blood sample they send us - as well as all those
we collect - to more than 12 hours of screening and confirmatory testing before making it available to patients.
In addition, we honor our commitment to transfusion medicine leadership by contributing to advances in education,
research and training.
Created when three community blood banks finally merged in 1994, Florida Blood Services is a non-profit
organization headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida.
